|

There's been a lot of swearing in the garage tonight. I'm wrestling with the right hand pivot pin. The manual says to use BMW part 26 1 660 and I have seen it written that some have had luck with vice grips and others a slide hammer...I have vice grips and I have managed to get it move a little left and right but it won't come out even a smidge. At this point I might concede and buy the BMW part but I can't even find it online...are there any other tricks I can try? the pin itself is not looking that pretty after the vice grip session and will probably be replaced if I can ever get it out.
thanks

Problem solved...I wasn't being persuasive enough. A lot of WD40 and some serious bashing with a claw and rubber mallet got it out. My advice to anyone with the same issue is either do the same and suffer the cost of a new pivot pin ($35ish online) or use a slide hammer and attach it to the M6 hole in the middle. The reason I'm removing it is to paint...so a few scratches around the pin wasn't an issue. Be prepared to swear a lot. _________________ '95 K1100LT

You can also just work around the outside of it in a circle with a screwdriver or chisel to pry it loose. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Hello!
Grease it before installing, no problems next time on removing it.
