I purchased a new set of Road pilot 3 tyres for my K1100RS BMW motorcycle, based on advice and reviews. However, I have never experienced so much punctures in my life before.
The last straw was these last two weeks here in the west of Ireland. My journey started by removing and repairing a nail from the rear tyre. And in less than 100miles, an M8 treaded bar 70mm long with a locknut buried itself into the same tyre, now destroyed.
This is not a normal object to end up in a tyre, nor have ever seen it happen before.
The tyre has less that 3000Km on them, and I have now spent over 100euros repairing punctures.
I am thinking they are designed to attrack and pickup metal.

anyone else experiencing the same??

Reg - That sounds like a terrible string of bad luck! I also have RP3's on my K1100RS and all is going great with those tires. I ride it mostly 2 up, but they have been excellent in all regards.

Anyone have a way of improving Reg's luck? Smile

Several sets of Pilot Road 2 then PR3 and now a PR4 on the front and PR3 on the back of my K-RS.

I know that I am going to regret posting this but never have had a flat. Even after hitting a sharp edged construction repair and bending both rims.

The first PR3 I had was repaired 5 times. The first repair was within 100 miles of being new. The 2nd PR3 is just about worn out and no repairs. Go figure.

I've got PR3's on my LT, never a flat or leak in 1000 miles or so. I do carry a plug kit and CO2 inflator.

Bike sat for almost 2 months at Christmas, tires were within a pound of where I set them.

We had alot of roof repairs here last winter after an ice storm, I picked up two screws in my SUV within a week. You going through any construction areas?

I haven't never punctured the PR2 and PR3 tires in several years... but I had a Honda Deauville... btw, the PR3 are very good tires under the rain.
Now I'm at my first tire change with the K1100LT and I preferred a tire with most robust shoulders, like the Metzeler Lasertec

This would be where I say that I have never had a puncture on a bike, but that would be bad luck, so I am not going to say it.

I will say that it just sounds like bad luck and not the tires fault.

I have had a series of punctures a few years back and related it to building construction at work. Once the construction was completed, amazingly I stopped picking up screws, nails, etc...... as did other staff members that were also experiencing flat tires..

I love the PR3's. I only hope the PR4's are as good.
