Hello K11 folks,

I own a 1996 K1100 LT SE, so that is what this is about.
My ABS Module threads from the rear brake fluid pipe into Module have stripped (aluminum) but otherwise the unit worked fine. The threads stripped as a result of a clutch replacement putting the pipe back together into the module. The piece that the wrench goes onto looked like it had been turned by an ape at some time before I owned the bike and the wrenching surface is really marred.
Anyone try to helicoil one of these? Would the helicoil hold? How could I clean out the shavings when done? Etc, Etc.
BMW wants over $2,000 for a new one. I can buy another K1100 for that!!!

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

OR...
Anyone got an ABS II Module that you will sell me?
Must be in good working order with good threads.
Thanks...Don

Helicoils work great for mechanical repairs, but if you stripped the fluid side I don't think it will work.

If, and a big if, you could find the right tap you could just chase the threads with a little wheel grease not he tap to catch any chips.

Check eBay, or Beemer Boneyard, or, maybe someone here who is stripping theirs will pop in.

If not stripped too bad, you may be able to clean up the threads very carefully on the modulator and the brake line fitting.

I cross threaded one hole on modulator a 94 K11LT once putting back together after a clutch job.

Bought a cheap 12mm X 1.00 Bottoming Tap and a matching Die on ebay or amazon . ( a little at a time while cleaning out shavings after a small turn).

That worked for me.

Thanks guys. Not sure what I'll do yet but I may try to tap and generally clean up the threads and see how it goes. Best to start cheap and go from there.
N41ef - that's about what I get for gas mileage if I'm not flogging it.
