|
|
Last winter I did a project on my 1993 K1100LT with 125,000 miles. I replaced all the hoses, intake manifold and manifold bushing/o-ring and sent the injectors to Mr. Injector . I am now in the process of doing the same to my 94 and 95 K1100LT's. My question is, is it really necessary to replaced the intake manifolds on these two bikes. The manifolds on the 93 appeared to be in good shape but I replaced them any way since I had the bike disassembled.
It makes sense to me to replace the rubber because of the bikes age but the I'm not convinced it's necessary to spend an additional $100 per bike to replace the manifolds. Both these bikes have less than 40,000miles. I would like to order the parts this week so any advise any one would like to give me would be appreciated. _________________ 1993 K1100 LT

You could wait with the bushings till you dis-assemble and inspect the existing ones, then determine if you need to place an extra order for just the bushings. _________________ Ride safe.

What he said. At 40K they are probably OK. _________________ 93 LT (x2)

Thanks for your replies. I have disassembled the 95 and the bushings look perfect, that is no visible cracks or chips and the O'ring groove looks good.. However I 'm not familiar with the chemical makeup of the plastic its molded from so hard to know the effect the heat has over time. But I agree, the low mileage would certainly be a factor. Thanks again for your response. _________________ 1993 K1100 LT

As easy way to diagnose them is to spray some starter fluid around them when the bike idles. If the idle goes up....
Or if you're paranoid about starting a fire then you can mist some water around them at idle. If the idle goes down... _________________ 93 LT (x2)
