8 pounds, 4 ounces.

While everything was apart for paint I realized I've only ever turned the FM radio on twice, just to show someone it worked, and used the cassette tape once (Paula Abdul is the only cassette I own) so I removed it. All to it.

Manuals
Radio Removal Tools
Card with code number
Radio
Radio Holder
Antenna
Handlebar radio control
Speakers
3 pieces of wiring harness

I now have a left faring pocket for storage, less weight on the bike and one or two fewer things to cause electrical problems. I have a bluetooth helmet for music, my GPS is hardwired, and don't need the lighter. I taped over the radio connector in the faring and zip tied it into the wiring harness.

I'm going to vac bag seal it all and put it in a box into storage in case I ever want to put it back in.

Oh, and on my bike a plastic 9/16 inch plug from Lowes sealed the antenna hole.

I have also removed the one fitted to my K1100LT but left all the other wires etc just in case I should wish to sell it on.

Then I made a false bottom for the pocket which contained the radio and like the originator of the post I now have extra storage space. The saving of weight is not the issue, 4-5 pounds is neaither here or there.

It is just a wasted item on a motorcycle.

and you are admitting this? in public?

Some of us took the shorter route to weight loss. We ride K100/1100RS. Laughing

I pulled everything associated with the radio, incl. wiring. It may not be a large amount, but think of where those pounds were located...up high. It may help maneuverability somewhat. Losing radio system, lighter exhaust, and some have removed ABS to shed pounds...may not matter that much for these bikes but??...

For me it wasn't so much the weight, but I had several rattles on railroad tracks and I started hunting them down. Turns out the upper left mounting point on my fairing was broken free from the fairing, three of the plastic pieces the screws go into had stripped out so the upper dash piece, the two pockets, and the lower trim pieces could move. I ordered all 8 white mounts and will replace them.

The weight removal is a bonus, and as was mentioned that weight is up high.

It's already much better with rattles. I also just got a small voltmeter and USB outlet on eBay, will look at mounting them inside one of the pockets.
