So, I was watching a few auctions on eBay, and bought a fuel gage on a whim. Mine had a small delam spot. It was $24 with shipping. I Installed it tonight and it's dampened, when switched on the gage needle slowly sweeps to full. My 1993 gage just slams up. I've noticed a few times over bumps and such I get twitches on my temp and fuel gages.

The one I bought had a build date of 08/1986 and a part number of:
9 2901 02600 on the tape, no sticker on gage

My original was build date 22/1992 and part number:
21 1 2001 1 10 on tape
609 003 1017 on gage
2 305 068 on gage

What K bikes were made in 1986 that I could get a temp gage from that would also be dampened.

Chuck - just hold your cursor over the bikes you want to see production years for - a little pop up will show what years the bike was manufactured - and a picture of the bike...

Part of the problem is I don't know what models or how old I need to go to get the dampened gages. The one dated 1986 is, the one from 1992 isn't.

Anyone with older K75 or K100 please check and let me know what bikes had dampened gages.

From what I've seen it's mostly the 93 LTs that have undamped gauges. You can't tell the difference from the part number though.

Or you could modify your original.

When I was biking in the 60's and 70's on bikes made by Triumph Norton or BSA the vibration by those old twins was at best - bad. Mounted in the headlamp was an 8 or 12 ampmeter that would regularly be destroyed by these incessant high frequency shakes. The needle would swing from side to side then eventually fall off the pivots

What a lot of people did, including me, was to remove the gauges and completely seal them, then inject very light machine oil using a hyperdermic syringe and needle to the point there were no air bubbles. (I used oil that was normally used by watch repairers) The hole for the syrings was then also sealed and the ampmeter refitted.

The result was it actually worked and all vibration was dampened and for such a simple remedy it was a God send.

On my K1100LT, the fuel gauge is undamped, whilst the temp gauge is.

The fuel gauge on my '94 RS was dampened but now it isn't - somethings broke inside.
