I purchased a tank bag awhile back and it is in beautiful shape but I have never used it. The base has 3 metal hooks, one on the front strap and one on each side. Am I missing something? Do these hooks just attach to the tank itself? TIA.

If you have a K11 and the baseplate is marked K11/K1 you missing two hooks that should be mounted on the tank
(in the mount for the battery cover on earlier models).

What about the front mount hook on the base plate? What does it attach to?

To the front welded seam on the gas tank.
You find some info in this thread.

I found the 2 side brackets at Morton's BMW in VA. As far as the front goes I'm still at somewhat of a loss. If someone who has one of these bags could respond as to what is used on their bike I would appreciate it.

The front hook is part of the tank bag base. The hook just slips over the front edge of the fuel tank, then the tension of the elastic straps connecting the side hooks is all that keeps it on the bike.
I could take some pics of mine tomorrow.

I would appreciate the pictures. The front hook on mine has a leather flap under it, not sure how that part is supposed to work.

The leather flap stays in the hook - it protects the paint on the gas tank from damage. Make sure the leather flap is in the hook, slide the hook forward of the very front of the gas tank, the hook will drop down, then pull the tank bag back. At that point, after you have the side hooks installed, you slip the hooks on the tank bag into the side hooks.

Ah! the light comes on, thanks Jim. This tank bag must have never been on a bike as the leather flap on the base is flat as can be. BTW, LOVE the Remus exhaust, Thanks again.

Ok, here's some pics to help explain the setup:

This would be the front hook with the leather tucked up inside it.

Here's what it looks like with the hook connected to the front edge of the fuel tank.

Then obviously, the side hooks connected to the side clips.

Hope it helps clear it up.

Be sure to see the Bay of Fundy if you haven't been there before.

30 some-odd years ago Cathy and I took our Honda 900F up to the Gaspe then to Nova Scotia and Cape Breton and back. Great trip.

In 2 weeks it might be pretty cool and foggy in the mornings, but you might actually see some trees start to change color. Best of luck on your trip.
