Gidday Folk,

I picked up a very good Ikon (Australian company) shocker today off ebay cheap and without to much thinking before anyone else brought it, I have Ikon shocks on my two R100RS's so I know them well.

But this new one came off a late model K100, I have heard that the K100 and K1100 are the same with rear shocker sizes, so can someone please put me out of my misery and tell me I was correct with my quick thinking......... or not!!

Many thanks

Looking at a part # search, it looks like the shock on the 1100's is the same as k100rs's after 03/89(the 4v k100rs)

Gidday,

Is no go, Bugger!!

The ikon shocker arrived in the mail so I set about removing the old original one (now there is another story) which came off easy and then I went to put the Ikon on which is in excellent condition to btw.
Sadly the Ikon was 1.5" shorter and I have since found out that this one is made for k100 and k75 bikes only, the K1100 has a stand only shock available from Ikon, so its back in the box and on ebay it went asap, no good to me now.

So the other story regarding the original shock.
This shocker position is how it was mounted when I purchased the bike, I took this pic a month ago when I installed new tyres, is the shocker mounted upside down? take a closer look

Why I ask is that when I removed the original shock from the bike yesterday I found the H (hard) - S (Soft) adjusting screw at the bottom and pointing towards the tyre, which is impossible to adjust and I didn't even notice it on the bike.
The reason the bike rode hard was because it was adjusted to the hardest setting, a little bone jarring actually compared to the soft spongy LT.

Also with the shock position I thought the other settings that you twist around and it locks into different height locators would be on the bottom like my two R100RS bikes are, this just seemed natural to me, or am I wrong in think this.

Would an upside shock feel or act differently, silly question I know but oil/fluid levels inside would all still work the same you would think??

So now I have the original BMW shocker back on, I have mounted it the other way up with the H-S adjuster at the top facing outwards and it is set at the softer end of the adjustment and feels nice although I am only sitting on it in the driveway.

Any suggestions for settings would be great to btw Smile

Many thanks

Gidday,

Why thank you for all the replies Smile

I just found a pannier-less image of a k1100 taken of the right side and yes my original shocker looks like it had been installed upside down by the previous owner.
