Hey All,

my 95 K1100RS just left me stranded. Turned the bike off and, on turning it on, I got fuel pump and then hit the starter. The starter did not turn the bike fully over, it made one very brief attempt to catch, and then the electrical went dead.

When the key is turned to the ON position, all electrical dies: no lights, no fuel pump, no gauge or dash lights, clock resets.

When the key is turned into the parking light position, same thing.

Any ideas where I should start? I'm at a loss for what kind of short would be causing this. Is there a relay I should be checking? An emergency bypass to ground that would turn off the clock?

The battery is fully charged and meters at the nominal float voltage for the battery, but it acts like a dead battery. Unfortunately my battery load tester is in a different state.

Thanks for all your help, guys!

Sounds like either a bad battery/cell, and/or a bad connection/cable.
Make sure both your connections are clean and tight at the battery, also check the ground connection at the engine(normally at the starter mount bolt) check for corrosion as well.

Yep, bad battery under load testing. Looks like something on the inside busted all in one go. Nominal unloaded voltage was okay, 12.90v off the bike. Loaded was 0.98v.

Another thread identical to this one: k11og.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13205

Fortunately I appear to have avoided welding the starter relay due to low voltage. Thanks a ton for the help!

The stater relay thing CAN happen but not always. I've started bikes on low batteries many times. even run down batteries on bikes I was troubleshooting and never manged to weld a starter relay. (knock wood)

In case you didn't know, sometimes the starter relay can be unstuck by giving the rear right of the relay box a good whack with a crescent wrench or whatever.
