My left zipper crapped out on me before riding home from CA in April. Ended up having to sew the dang thing up and remove my tank bag at every gas stop. PITA! Twisted Evil

Hi, Drake,
Linda Tanner will repair tankbags. She replaced the elastic on mine for a very reasonable price. If you have her do the zipper, send her ALL the tankbag pieces because BMW has used a number of different suppliers, who have used different zippers. She will make sure the zippers on each piece of the tankbag are compatible. I'm sorry, but I don't remember her e-mail. Someone reading this will hopefully supply the info.

A question about how you use your tank bag to gas up.

I had the same problem but only it was the right side zipper that blew out on me. The PO had told me to unzip fully the left hand zipper and flop the bag out of the way of the gas cap. Had the bag fixed but the leather shop doing the repair didn't have a matching zipper so they used a coarse tooth brass zipper, not a big deal but it doesn't zip well, I have to get both hands on it to zip and unzip. I think flopping the bag over on the right side stressed the zipper in the bend to cause it to blow out. Now when I gas up I unzip both zippers to just past the bend and stand the tank bag up on its end to access the gas cap. Just wondering how everyone else does it?

In the beginning I used to just unzip 1 side and flop it over to fill. Then as I started to carry more "stuf" in the bag I felt it would start to tear out the zipper from the weight so I have been unzipping both sides and taking the bag off totally.

I zip both sides down to the corners and flip it back. (I sit on my bike while refueling.)

I just unhook the elastic straps - slide front of bag to side and place on seat while fueling. Much eaiser then tugging on zippers.

+1 unhook. I used to unzip, but that was tending to lead to zipper damage. Tank bags are pricey enough - I imagine zipper repair isn't cheap, either. Things would have been easier if BMW/Multivario/whoever had used the same zipper on all of them! Near as I can tell, they used at least three different zippers - depending on where/when the tankbag was made.
