Chicago IMS Show Musings

Postby Geoff » Mon Feb 22, 2010 12:25 pm

I attended the Chicago IMS show on February 19. Surprisingly, BMW was not in attendance. This show attracts people from Chicago, Milwaukee and northern Indiana. BMW missed the opportunity to capitalize on market interest in the new S1000RR. I overheard several people asking if anyone saw the bike.

Honda's new VFR1200 was nice. The fit and finish is excellent. The (optional) saddlebags should be included in the $16K price. The bike's ergos impose a tight bend on the knees, making it feel more like a sportbike than a sport tourer.

Cycle World columnist Peter Egan gave a nice talk. I recognized a couple stories from his book Leanings.

I was annoyed by organizations that had members out in the crowded aisles with jars and buckets (Toys for Tots, Teamsters, etc.) looking for donations. I had no problem with the cause, but they were blocking aisles. Show organizers need to get a handle on this problem.

This Confederate was the most interesting bike on display.
