93 K1100lt Right blinker won't go off. I am vacationing in the black hills and would like to get home safely. Where do I start? I pulled the fuse cause when I turned the key off it still stuck on.

Well, here's some possibilities.

1 the blue/yellow wire between the right side switch cluster is skinned and grounded somewhere causing the signal to be on all the time.

2 the right side signal switch is internally stuck closed.

3 the flasher unit could be bad.

If it is still flashing with the key OFF then I would suggest that the flasher unit is bad.

Thanks for the help! The right blinker is lit, and doesn't blink. Even when I turned the ignition off it stays lit. I pulled the #3 fuse and it went off.

Does this help with the diagnosis? I will look for the wire you mentioned.

Had the same deal on my '93LT. Only happened on the RH signal. I would lift the tank and give the relay a thump or 2 to clear the signal. Sometimes I had to loosen the mounting screws, which was a further indication of a bad relay. Did this until I found a relay on fleabay that I thought was priced right. Changed the relay and problem went away. No issues for 6 months so far.

I had that when I brought my 95 K11 home on the day I bought it. I too gave the relay a good slap with a heavy object. It never failed again & we did 15K more miles before it was sold.

Had the Hazards on my LT stick on on the way home from collecting it in Ireland, had to ride 450 mile with no indicators at all, again new flasher unit was needed.

Tapping the relay unsticks it. The left blinker works fine. It's the right that sticks. I keep forgetting not to push it. Everytime I forget and put the right blinker on it stays lit even with the key off. Every time I tap the relay it clears. Glad to know its the relay. When I pulled fuse #3 the blinkers and the clock are disabled. Does anyone know if fuse 3 shuts off anything beyond the blinkers and clock? My service manual is at home. Thanks for the help.

Near as I can see fuse 3 doesn't affect anything else, flasher unit and clock. The 4-ways won't work either as it comes from the flasher unit.

It was only the right blinker sticking not the left. Last time I tapped on the relay I tried to "seat" it better. Since then it has been working fine. Thanks for all the help! Made it all the way home, with a functioning blinker. If it starts to fail again I will get a new relay.

Had my replay apart today (just looking to see if I can modify to drive LEDs without extra bits by bypassing the "blown bulb" checker)... the contacts on the two relays are right there in front of you, fairly easy to get at.

IMHO a couple of passes (drag-throughs) of a small strip of 1500+ grit "glasspaper" would probably clean your contacts OK - might be worth a try before getting anew relay?

Cheers

DONT !! The glass / emery paper will :-
A) knacker the contacts.
B) Leave debris to cause more faults.

If you need to clean them, use brown paper dry. That is rough enough.
They are silver plated which is too soft for an abrasive.

Tim - humbly disagree...

If the contacts are arced enough to stick
- the silver plating is likely long gone at the contact point
- the brown paper approach won't get rid of the "spurs" that caused the sticking, it'll just shred.

(if it were unstuck & NOT lighting the bulbs I'd agree wlth brown paper!)

Good point, well made. We "hams" must stick together, but not like contacts Laughing

slightly off topic, but do the k-bikes come with self-canceling blinkers? i saw a post somewhere that they did. mine does self cancel and i haven't got the faintest clue where to look for a signal minder if there is one. would that be under the tank?

K bikes do self cancel - but it's strange rules, like "after so many seconds if above speed X, after so much distance if below speed X" from memory. The indicator "relay" does have a link wire with the instrument cluster (other than the indicator lights, of course)...

Of course, with the all-electronic blinkers, if you want to do a cancel yourself (from some other add-on) you've got it easier than with the normal motorbike turn signal switches - you just need to earth (from memory - do check!) the CANCEL wire.

Max was pretty close, from the ops manual:

After aprox 10 seconds at road speeds above 30 MPH, or

After aprox 690 ft in local or slow moving traffic.

Or you can cancel manually with the cancel switch on the right side handlebar control

yeah, i had the manual cancel down. Wink but i had noticed the signals canceling themselves and didn't remember reading anything about the feature while researching the bike. that is sweet, no need to install a signal minder then (for that purpose at least). Very Happy

The stock flasher relay cancels after 100 meters. It's the big one in the left rear of the relay box.

edit: nevermind. picture works now, didn't originally.

i should probably just, you know, read that owners manual that i have sitting in my bike's documentation folder. or the other manual that is in the tail section of the bike. but ... i'm a male engineer, i don't read instructions! oh the dilemma ...
