Hi Folks,

In looking at the IBMWR Tech Pages on how to build an LED light to test the ABS-1 system the (1999) directions call for an 2.7v LED, resistors, and a bunch of other things I know nothing about.

I printed it out and stopped by a Radio Shack today and while gazing cluelessly at the drawers of electronic doo-dads I started talking with a fellow who looked at the schema, laughed and said that LEDs have come a long way in ten years and all I needed was this:

Any thoughts??? I paid under $3 for it Smile

Scratch that - this is the one I got:

I also bought a couple little alligator clips and was planning on soldering one for the negative side. The positive side I was just going to tin, I figure it will work just fine that way in the diagnostic port.

My thinking was to put this and a length of wire (again tinned on one end and alligator soldered to the other) into a little zip-loc baggie and have an instant ABS fault code reader/reset kit that will fit in the far recesses of the tail cowl hoping I never need it!

Ted, can't you do the same thing with the existing "choke" lamp on the inst cluster?

I seem to remember reading something about diagnostics on the older jetronic systems using the inst cluster lamps, but don't remember details.

Not on a K75. The choke like is triggered by a piston switch next to the TPS. BMW got cheap and stopped installing the choke light switch in 91.
