Hi,
The subject line says it all - any tips appreciated. Looks like sump removal is a big job so i'll need to do it in situ with plenty of masking tape. Planning to use Hammerite satin.

With the fairing hiding the engine, is it necessary to paint it?
Or are you looking for a make-work-project?
Just trying to figure out your motivation _________________ John & Cathy

I was thinking the same gladstone. The bottom on my engine as seen through the front of the fairing is scruffy with paint flaking off. _________________ There is only now, yesterday is gone and is unchangeable, tomorrow is uncertain. Live in the moment. |

Mount a fender extension, it saves that front part of the engine from getting blasted.

On the LT the fairing only comes down to the oil sight-glass. Most of the sump is visible and the paint has flaked off the fins. Also the front (water-pump I think) is visible and looks bad too.
The rest of the bike has held up well, and on my other LT there's no paint flaking off anywhere - I guess it helps make other look bad.
You've got me thinking though - anyone bolted an RS belly-pan to the bottom of an LT?!

The RS got a complete different fairing, that require a major work.
You could search one from a K100/16V, cut off the top part and make your own bracket,
or cut off the bottom part of the LT fairing.
Or search a used one from a swiss LT.

Ok, job done. Gave a 'six foot finish' - looks great from six feet... _________________ 1993 K1100LT (x2!)

The 6' finish is what I did last month, but I will have a proper go over the winter. I have a fender extender on my k11rs and it still gets blasted enough to flake the paint off _________________ There is only now, yesterday is gone and is unchangeable, tomorrow is uncertain. Live in the moment. |
